Exemptions granted to services related to Const. Sector

ISLAMABAD: SAPM Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan while briefing Media about Cabinet decisions here today informed that tax on services provided by property dealers, real estate agents, property developers and promoters has been reduced from five percent to zero.

She further told that tax on services of property developers on low cost housing units to be constructed under Naya Pakistan Housing Project has also been reduced to zero percent.

According to SAPM the relief in construction industry will benefit daily wagers, plumbers, carpenters, developers and other stakeholders of this sector.

Cabinet has also allowed export of chloroquine tablets to friendly countries to help them combat COVID-19. SAPM has further told that the country had 40 million tablets in stock, that is more than sufficient for domestic needs. Pakistan also possesses raw material to make more.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan further told that one million chloroquine tablets each will be exported to Saudi Arabia and USA, half million each to Turkey and Italy, five million to the United Kingdom, 700,000 to Kazakhstan and 300,000 to Qatar.

She informed that leaders of various countries had called the PM and expressed a desire to import chloroquine tablets from Pakistan following some encouraging results in treating the coronavirus.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan while pointing out that these countries had always supported Pakistan, said that for the sake of humanity and to improve the country’s credibility it was necessary to help them.

Cabinet had endorsed decisions taken at the Committee of Energy regarding amendments in Section VIII of OIL and Gas Regulatory Authority Act 2002 to end gap, while determining regular and semiannual tariff.

Restructuring and reforms in the Competition Commission of Pakistan to prevent cartelization against public interest has also been approved.

In order to prevent cartlization against public interest, the Cabinet has approved restructuring and reforms in the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP).

Special Assistance insinuated that CCP was busy to protect influential people instead of protecting interests of the people.

Elsewhere, Planning Minister  Asad Umar told that Commission of Inquiry will be constituted to probe the IPP issues, which will finalize its findings in three months. Cabinet had also decided to make IPP inquiry reports public.
