KARACHI: Six people got injured as a result of a cracker explosion carried out at Mehfil-e-Milad arranged by MQM-P (sans official permission) near Perfume Chowk here in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area late night
Wounded are being shifted to nearby medical facilities. According to details, while MQM-P’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was present on the stage at the event, Sindh Assembly’s former opposition leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan was sitting on the front row with the audience.
A worker of MQM-P’s communication department is reportedly among the injured. Convener and members of Rabita Committee are said to have remained unhurt. As expected there was a stampede after the explosion but that did not cause any casualty. Windowpane glasses of nearby buildings were shattered while many motorcycles were also partially damaged. The area has been cordoned off as an investigation is being carried out.
Sources privy to NewsPakistan.tv had earlier insinuated that the explosive was hidden in a plant pot near the stage. Whereas, SSP East Capt (R) Ghulam Azfar Mahessar later informed that a cracker was thrown at the participants of the Mehfil-e-Milad, by unidentified motorcyclists, parts of which had been recovered from the scene of the crime by BDU.
However, it later transpired that a 250-300 gram planted IED was detonated by means of a remote-control device.
German CG gifts bicycles to Lyari girls

KARACHI: Scene was set just few hundred meters from the Arabian Sea where cycling aficionado girls from Lyari converged in front of majestic Old Customs House.
Occasion was presentation of sixteen sports bicycles to Cycling Club of Lyari’s Girls Café by Ms. Birgit Kihlmann, Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission here, on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Speaking to NPTV on the emblematic significance of this event Ms. Birgit Kihlmann maintained that she was honored to witness the girls of this Metropolis cycling on the streets: “I am profoundly content that Lyari’s girls are freely riding cycles without any fear.”
Head of the Cyclists Club Zulekha Dawood told NPTV about the timely support by German Consulate: “Since the number of girl cyclists is augmenting day by day, we desperately needed more cycles”. Thanking the Germans for their year-long support Zulekha Dawood lamented: “Since there is no space for cycling in this Port City, the future town planners must ponder over the matter”.
Following the formal presentation of, German diplomat Ms. Birgit Kihlmann mingled with the Lyari cyclists. It is pertinent to mention here that German Consulate General here vehemently encourages such healthy activities.
President PFUJ GM Jamali condemns closure of Awam and Daily News
KARACHI: President PFUJ GM Jamali has strongly condemned closing down of eveningers Daily News (English) and Awam (Urdu) that has rendered a hundred journalists/Media workers jobless.
President PFUJ GM Jamali has asked Prime Minister Imran Khan, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Sind Government to take notice of this move by Media House owners.
GM Jamali maintained that shutting the two eveningers was not only an attempt to suppress the freedom of expression but also to force journalists/Media workers towards committing suicide.
He urged the concerned authorities to terminate the declarations of all such newspapers that have been closed down (including Daily News and Awam) to discourage dummy publication and/or later launch with a different approach.
KMC, Chinese company to upgrade city streetlights
KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has started work on converting city streetlights into modern LED energy saver solar light system on all 108 KMC roads with the cooperation of a renowned Chinese company, for better performance and low cost.
In this connection, a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation (MSC) was signed on Friday by Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar and representative of CCCC Xi`an Road Construction Machinery Company (XRMC) Pvt Ltd, said a statement. Senior director coordination Masood Alam, senior director culture and sports Rehan Khan with officers of Mechanical and Engineering department were also present on the occasion. With this streetlights reform project, XRMC may also assist KMC to draw up “municipal road lighting standard and municipal streetlights standard project.” Through the cooperation of the streetlights energy-saving project, XRMC may conduct the detailed survey, design the proposal of KMC’s lighting in Karachi, then effectively promote the streetlights energy-saving reform project to Lahore and other places to save more electrical energy.
Both KMC and XRMC are committed to strengthening the cooperation in the field of the service capacity of infrastructure in the field of energy-saving LED lights. XRMC has rich development and management experience in municipal government streetlights and smart-city, as well as enjoys the comparative advantage of production capacity in China and XRMC is promoting several National level municipal streetlights reform projects in many countries like Norway, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
