KARACHI: Former Ameer of Jama’at-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hasan has breathed his last here today (26th of June, 2020) in a private hospital where he was undergoing treatment for quite sometime now.
Ameer Jama’at-e-Islami (Pakistan) Senator Siraj-ul-Haq maintained:
آج اللہ کے ولی، داعی الی اللہ، مجاہد فی سبیل اللہ ہمارے مربی اور رہنما سید منورحسن اپنے رب کے پاس حاضر ہو گئے۔ دو دن پہلے ان کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا تو ان کے چہرے پر نور اور سکون تھا۔ نفس مطمئنہ کی کیفیت نظر آ رہی تھی۔ محسوس ہوا جیسے جنت ان کے انتظار میں ہے
Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Mian Shehbaz Sharif has taken to the Twitter to express his grief: “Grieved to learn about the passing away of former Amir of Jamat-i-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan.
“His services to Pakistan and commitment to Islam were unwavering. May Allah rest his soul in peace! My deepest condolences to the bereaved family & the JI workers.”
Federal Minister for information & Broadcasting Federal Minister for information & Broadcasting also expressed his sorrow via Twitter:
سابق امیر جماعت اسلامی سید منور حسن کی رحلت پر بے حد افسوس ہے۔وہ جمہوریت کے داعی اور انتہائی نفیس انسان تھے۔دنیا بھر کے مسلمانوں کے حقوق کیلئے وہ توانا آواز بنے۔اللہ تعالی ان کو جوار رحمت میں جگہ عطا فرمائے اور لواحقین کو صبر جمیل دے۔آمین

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, President of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl stated: “I have spent a lot of time with Syed Munawar Hasan. He was a man with a happy disposition. He made valuable contributions to politics.
Minister For Women Development Sindh, Syeda Shehla Raza said: سیاسی اور مذہبی حلقوں میں یہ خبر انتہائ دکھ اور افسوس کے ساتھ سنی جائے گی کہ سابق امیر جماعت اسلامی اپنے خالق حقیقی سے جا ملے،اللہ ان کے اہل خانہ اور لواحقین کو یہ دکھ برداشت کرنے کی توفیق دے اور منور حسن کو جنت مین بلند مقام عطا کرے
Hunaid Lakhani, PTI leader and head of Bait-ul-Mal, said that the welfare works carried out by Syed Munawar Hasan would always be remembered.

Commenting on his life and time Jama’at-e-Islami informed that Syed Munawar Hasan was born in Delhi in August 1944. In 1947 his family moved to Lahore and later permanently to Karachi. He became member of Parliament in 1977 and in 2009 was elected the 4th Ameer of Jama’at-e-Islami.

Munawar Hasan commenced his political career by joining NSF and in 1959 was elected its president. Next year, inspired by the teachingsof Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maududi and Maulana Naeem Siddiqui, he joined JI’s student wing Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba.
He was elected Jamiat’s president University of Karachi unit, Karachi City Unit, and a member of its Central Executive Council.
In 1964 Munawar Hasan became Jamiat’s national president and served in that capacity for three consecutive terms.
Though under his leadership Jamiat had organised numerous campaigns mobilizing public opinion regarding education issues, he also focused on his education and earned a Masters degree from University of Karachi.
Munawar Hasan became a member of Jama’at-e-Islami Pakistan in 1967 and eventually was elected it Ameer on 29th day of March 2009. He served JI in that capacity till 29th day of March 2014.
