RAWALPINDI: The 15th PM of Pakistan (2002-2004) Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, who was on a ventilator for the last three days expired here today (2nd of December) at the age of 76.
He had been undergoing treatment at Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology/National Institute of Heart Diseases where he was admitted after suffering a heart attack last week.
Jamali, who belonged to a landlord family of Balochistan’s Rojhan area, got early schooling at Lawrence College, Murree and A levels from Aitchison College, Lahore. Later he earned his Master’s in History from University of Punjab in 1965.
As a student he supported Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah against (self-proclaimed Field Martial) Mohammad Ayub Khan. Not only that he also was the security guard of Ms. Fatima at that time. For the crime of supporting Jinnah’s sister he was incarcerated.
Later Jamali commenced his political career by supporting PPP-P. When Gen. Zia-ul-Haq imposed Martial Law he allied with him. Jamali served as the premier during the dictator Gen Pervez Musharraf’s regime.
President Dr Arif Alvi, while expressing his sympathies with the bereaved family, prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
PM Imran Khan took to the Twitter to state: “Saddened to hear of the passing of Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali. My condolences and prayers go to his family.”
Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali. In a tweet, Director General Inter Services Public Relations Major General Babar Iftikhar quoted the COAS as: “May Allah bless his soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, Ameen”.
Governor Balochistan Amanullah Khan Yasinzai extended his sympathy to the bereaved family. He prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal abode with peace and granting courage to bereaved family members.
Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan also expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali. In a condolence message, he prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace, grant patience and courage to members of the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity. The minister paid tribute to late Jamali.
