French Envoy Nicolas Galey calls on Defense/Fin Ministers

ISLAMABAD: French Envoy Nicolas Galey called on Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Minister for Finance/Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb separately here.

During the rendezvous with Khawaja Asif, French Envoy lauded Pakistan’s role in regional stability. The visiting dignitary ensured to play his role for further amelioration in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all niveaux.

Defense Minister, while pondering over a number of issues, held: “Pakistan attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with France.”

Emphasizing enhanced collaboration between the Armed Forces of the two countries Khawaja Asif reiterated that Pak-France bilateral relations were based on principles of mutual respect.

Asserting that Pakistan was committed to stability and peace in the region, the Defense Minister held that his government was committed to address global challenge of extremism.

The duo pondered over modus operandi to further strengthen Franco-Pak bilateral terms. During the rendezvous, assistance extended by French Government for renewal of GSP Plus status to Pakistan was lauded by the Minister.

The dignitary from the Hexagon was informed about the measures taken by GoP in order to stabilize the economy (including augmentation in agricultural production, forex reserves reaching $9 billion, stable rupee, declining inflation and upswing in the stock market).

Minister also told the Diplomat about the successful conclusion of the second IMF review under the Standby Arrangement (SBA).

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb briefed Monsieur Nicholas Galey apropos major reforms being undertaken by the government including: Privatization, SOEs reforms, FBR’s end-to-end digitization, export-led growth and energy sector reforms aimed at bringing the cost down.

Minister went on to claim that Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was a key platform for investor facilitation, streamlining processes to foster investment and economic growth.

French Envoy, while applauding GoP’s endeavors, expressed optimism about the future trajectory of Franco-Pak economic cooperation.

H.E. Nicolas Galey offered technical cooperation in the areas of interest for maintainable economic growth.
