PARIS: For the first time, the French Parliament members held a debate on the human rights issues in the Indian Occupied Kashmir.
The discussion on the occupied valley was held during a conference “Kashmir – the oldest conflict of the World” today where members of the French parliament human rights’ activists, scholars and media personnel participated and spoke on the long standing conflict between India and Pakistan
President of Pakistan-France Friendship Group in the French National Assembly Mr. Jean Bernard Sempastous was the first one to highlight Kashmir issue in the parliament and invite discussions from the members.
Delivering a keynote speech, Jean Bernard Sempastous said, “The conflict in Kashmir between Pakistan and India was 70 years old and had caused thousands of deaths. There was little knowledge about the Kashmir conflict in France. After a new historical turning point in August, the reflection on this old international conflict deserved France’s full attention.”
He also demanded the international community to play role for an early resolution of the Kashmir dispute and take action against human rights violation in the occupied valley.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s Ambassador to France Moin-ul-Haq thanked the French Parliament and Jean Bernard Sempastous for taking up the Kashmir issue and said that he hopes the world will pay attention on the problems of Kashmiri people and support their struggle for freedom.
