HAGUE: South Africa on Monday (28th Oct 2024) has filed evidence of a genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip with the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

According to South Africa the document contains proof which manifests how Israeli govt. has violated UN Genocide Convention by killing populace in Gaza. It may be recalled that Israel had been accused by South Africa on 11th of Jan, 2024 of breaching the UN Genocide Convention, saying that even the 7th October attack could not justify such actions. Pretoria had lodged an urgent appeal to ICJ to force Israel to immediately suspend its military operations in Gaza.

Israel has dismissed the case as atrocious and preposterous. Justice Minister Ronald Lamola of Pretoria held: “No armed attack on a state territory no matter how serious… can provide justification for or defend breaches of the convention.” Setting out South Africa’s case at the ICJ Justice Minister Ronald Lamola of Pretoria stated: “Israel’s response to the October 7 attack has crossed this line and given rise to the breaches of the convention.”

Cynics go haywire wondering what ill-prepared Hamas was counting on when it attacked Israel on 7th October, 2023 killing 1140 Israeli men, women and children? Were they thinking that Israel would not retaliate as they had taken few hundred hostage? But Israel attacked with full force, transforming Gaza infrastructure into chips, killing 100,000, forcing children beg for food. Or, there is another agenda alien to the quasi-immaterial entities??
