ISLAMABAD: Dr. Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, has today phoned Prime Minister Imran Khan in order to facilitate him on his election.
Emphasising on the importance of deepening bilateral relations, Merkel expressed her desire to expand cooperation with Pakistan on issues of mutual interest. She invited Imran Khan to visit Germany that he accepted.
Reciprocating, Imran Khan also emphasized on mutually beneficial, broad-based and long-term partnership. Pointing out that Germany was the largest trading partner of Pakistan in Europe he held that there was a substantial potential for cooperation in the spheres of energy and automobile sectors and investment in hydroelectric power generation.
Imran Khan also briefed Dr. Merkel on the regional situation, particularly the significance of a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan and relations with India. He also stressed on the resumption of comprehensive dialogue with India.
