LONDON: Oxford University researchers have said that energy companies should be stopped from building new coal and gas power stations to stop the rate the global warning is increasing.
Paris Agreement aims to stop global temperature rising more than 2C from pre-engineering era. But this could be achieved if no new fossil-fuel electricity –generating plants were built from 2017.
Unless they are equipped with expensive carbon-capturing technology these plants play devastating role in increasing global warming.
New power plants burning coal are becoming less common in the EU and US but hundreds are still planned in Asia and other parts of the world.
