Google to dissolve old Gmail design!

ISLAMABAD: Google has introduced an “early adopter programme (EAP)” for its newly Gmail design with features like Gmail offline and nudging.

“To prepare you and your organization for the general availability (GA) launch, the new Gmail is on an EAP and customers can choose to participate (or not) at the domain and organizational unit levels,” the G Suite team wrote in a blog post on Monday.

The announcements technically apply only to G Suite users – that is, people who have paid accounts through their company or organization – and Google declined to comment on whether the changes will be the same for regular Gmail users, The Verge reported.

After the general availability, G Suite admins will have options including immediately transitioning their users to the new Gmail, allowing their users to opt in to the new Gmail at the time of their choice or waiting approximately for four weeks until their users are not allowed to opt in to the new Gmail, G Suite team added.

Sometime in September, everyone will be switched over to the new Gmail design. The option to opt out will still be available for another month but by October, the option will disappear and G Suite accounts will be required to use the new design. The new Gmail launches to general availability from July.

i) Search engine giant Google, which has been quite heavy-handed regarding attachment sizes on its email feature Gmail, has decided to increase the attachment size from 25Mb to 50MB. While recognizing that “sending and receiving attachments is an important part of email exchanges,” Google on its official blog announced that users will now be able to receive emails of up to 50MB directly. However, Google is still very much wedded to the idea of people using Google Drive as the sending mails remain capped at the same limit as before at 25MB. Still, Google’s decision to increase the receiving limit is a good omen and hopefully, rules will be further relaxed in the future. (4th of March, 2017)

ii) Google has rolled out a new an interesting feature called ‘Gmailify’ for all the non-Gmail users. This new feature will enable the non-Gmail users to access Yahoo, Hotmail, and Outlook.com directly from the Gmail app available on Android. The users can also have the benefit of various Gmail features such as inbox organization, spam protection, Google Now cards and others. In order to use ‘Gmailify’ users need to manually switch it on by linking their non-Gmail account to the Gmail app. The users just need to open up the new version of Gmail app and sign in with their non-Gmail account and enable ‘Gmailify’. The company has not yet revealed as to when the feature will be rolled for iOS users. Gmail is one of the most popular email services with more than 900 million users globally.
