LAHORE: The government has decided to cancel state facilities like computerised national identity cards (CNICs), passports, driving and arms licences to suspected terrorists, while the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta) has ordered the freezing of their bank accounts.
Sources said a decision has been taken about taking strict action against suspected terrorists included in the Fourth Schedule and cancelling all state facilities to them. The Nacta has become active after receiving Rs1.6 billion budget.
According to the interior ministry sources, on the directions of Nacta National Coordinator, Ehsan Ghani, all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir, and the Gilgit-Baltistan governments have launched a review of the list of 8,300 suspected terrorists. District intelligence committees, set up at the district level, are reviewing the lists.
Sources said the names of inactive suspects would be excluded from the Fourth Schedule after the review and a compact lists comprising names of extremist suspected terrorists would be prepared. Then the government would take action against them, and cancel their CNICs, passports and arms and driving licences. Their bank accounts would be frozen and travel restrictions would be imposed on them.
Sources said it is a difficult task, as a review report on every suspected terrorist would be prepared. Work has already been launched on it but its completion would take some time, added the sources.
