Govt. issued 206 advts. worth Rs.1,076m in three months!

ISLAMABAD: Hearing suo motu case apropos (federal and provincial) government advertisements, CJP has clarified that the notice was to stop exploitation of public money for self-projection, particularly when general elections are round the corner.

According to details from 1st of Dec., 2017 till 28th of Feb., Rs.890m worth of 200 advertisements were issued to print media while Rs. 186m worth of advertisements were given to electronic media. Court has further been told that nine advertisements issued to print media harbored pictures of political leaders.

CJ, while maintaining that it was not the court’s job to intervene vis-à-vis the share of advertisements, held that Geo TV was issued more advertisements due to its pro-government stand.

Meanwhile, hearing a suo motu case regarding the non-payment of salaries SC has ordered the management to pay all the pending salaries by 30th day of April.

Maintaining that the employees were the backbone of any organization the court stated it would shut down TV channels not paying them their dues.
