Why Ex-HC Basit chose post-trump Paki-bashing time to attack Envoy Aizaz?

M. M. ALAM

KARACHI: Former HC to India Abdul Basit in his letter addressed to Pakistani Ambassador to USA, Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary, has said: “The more I think the more I am convinced that you have been the worst Foreign Secretary ever.
“My concern is that you would also end-up being the worst Pakistan Ambassador in Washington D.C.

“The reasons are simple”, held Basit, “First, you are not made for the delicate profession of diplomacy.

“While I can cite many examples, the Ufa Joint Statement and Pakistan’s humiliating defeat at the Human Rights Council are sufficient to prove my point.

“Second and it is more worrisome, your heart is not in the right place. In this regard the less said the better”.

Basit said he strongly held it was in Pakistan’s interest that he (Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary) should immediately be removed from Washington DC.

REJOINDER:

In his rejoinder,  emailed to media today, Pak Envoy to US Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry has termed Basit’s correspondence disgusting, rude & uncalled for upshot of jealousy.

Aizaz Ahmad maintaining that he had served Pakistan to the best of his abilities stated that Basit – instead of realizing his shortcoming – erroneously reckoned that he failed to reach the post of Foreign Secretary because of him.

WHY NOW?

Cynics go haywire noting the timing of this mudslinging. Why now, when Trump announcing that US would remain present in Afghanistan, has accused Pakistan of harboring terrorists?
