KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said different parts of the country including Karachi are set to swelter again through another heatwave that would start tomorrow.

According to the PMD, the heatwave could last three to four days.

“The sea breeze that usually keeps port city’s weather in check is expected to give way to hot winds coming in from the plains of interior Sindh,” said a statement by the department.

As a result, temperatures in the country are expected to surpass 40° Celsius from Saturday. Earlier, temperatures over the past 10 days have remained 3° Celsius below average, the report added.

In addition, there is a forecast of rain and thunder in Malakand, Hazara, and Gilgit-Baltistan, and at some locations in Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha divisions, Islamabad, FATA and Kashmir.

Last week, Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar stressed upon all stakeholders to make all possible efforts to save precious lives during heat wave in the city.

The mayor said 12 day-care centers have been established in different KMC hospitals whereas Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases will also facilitate the heat stroke patients round the clock in the city.

He directed for carrying out massive awareness campaign through media for wide publicity of heat stroke centers, contact numbers, health advisory etc.
