ISLAMABAD: Lane violation by public and heavy transport vehicles has become a growing threat to motorists as well as motorcyclists on Islamabad Expressway from Faizabad to Gulberg Chowk.
The Islamabad Traffic Police have virtually turned a blind eye to this mounting menace, citizens and commuters say.
Small iron guards have been placed on the road to specify lanes for heavy vehicles as well as light transport.
The purpose of this division was to urge drivers to follow their specific lanes.
But the lane division is being exploited by passenger van drivers who criss-cross between the lanes to earn more profit.
It has been observed that public transport vans repeatedly violate and jumps from one lane to another lane especially after seeing the passengers.
During peak hours and also in evening, it has been observed that HTV drivers also violate their lanes and jump into the lanes reserved for LTVs.
Their hurriedly acts pose serious threats to lives of motorcyclists and car drivers who prefer to drive in three lanes on their right side.
No doubt, the five lanes Islamabad Expressway has facilitated traffic but the silence of authorities on lane violation is posing serious threats to the road users.
The problem is mainly arisen due to apparent lack of resources with Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) as no policeman is even observed to check this road violation on this particular stretch.
CDA retrieves encroached land
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), in its ongoing anti-encroachment drive, retrieved 10 Kanal land from illegal occupants during an operation launched today at Murree Road in Mulpur.
During the operation jointly conducted by the CDA and the district administration, two rooms, three boundary walls and a gate illegally constructed on the state land were removed, a press release said.
The anti-encroachment teams have conducted several operations and razed illegal structures from June 4 to 9.
The actions against the encroachers were conducted at Murree Road, Bara Kahu, Lake View Park, Play Land near Marghzar Zoo, Fasil Mosque and inside the Katchi Abadi of Sector G-6/2.
A primary focus of the actions was to remove encroachments from the Right of Way (ROW) of the main roads leading to Murree and other recreational sites of the city to ensure smooth flow of traffic, especially during Eid holidays.
Normally, people along with their families visit different recreational spots in Murree and face severe traffic jam in Bhara Kau during Eid holidays due to road-side encroachments.
However, under a prudent strategy devised by the city managers, anti-encroachment teams with the cooperation of District Administration and Islamabad Police have not only removed the encroachments but also ensured smooth flow of traffic between Islamabad and Murree.
Meanwhile, special teams of CDA remained vigilant to curtail fresh illegal constructions in Katchi Abadis and razed a newly built illegal house near Post Office in Sector G-7.
