GAZA: A group called Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has claimed that its volunteers had documented Israeli air strikes on sixteen shelter schools since the commencement of the month of August, killing 217 Palestinian men, women, children and injuring hundreds.
Pakistan had condemned the Israeli attack on Al-Tabeen School in eastern Gaza on 10th August, 2024 which led to the death of over 100 civilians and injuring many more.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintained: “Attacking an overcrowded school sheltering displaced persons, particularly when they were performing morning prayers, is a horrific, inhuman, and cowardly act.
“The indiscriminate targeting of civilian populations and facilities is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and constitutes war crimes…Israel must be held accountable for these war crimes and genocide in Gaza.“
Foreign Office further stated: “Pakistan calls on the international community, especially the United Nations and backers of Israel, to take immediate steps to bring an end to the Gaza genocide and to protect the people of Gaza.”
UNRWA has said on 21st of June, 2024 that 76 percent of schools need reconstruction or major rehabilitation to be functional again.
Due to unending Hamas-Israel War most schools in Palestine have been transformed into shelters for an enormous number of people in search of refuge from Israeli bombardment since 7th day of October, 2023.
According to Sam Rose, director of planning for UNRWA, the fact that approximately 39,000 students are unable to sit the territory’s General Secondary Examinations (Tawjihi) is sad.
“More than half a million who’ve been deprived of education for more than eight months, but I do agree it’s important that we focus today on those who aren’t sitting able to sit their exams,
“UNRWA got about 300 schools in Gaza. Almost two-thirds of them have been damaged or destroyed,”
“Unfortunately, these places, as we know, are not always safe. Five hundred people to date have been killed inside UNRWA schools.”
