IG Punjab Shoaib Dastgir replaced

LAHORE: After an internal dispute between City Chief Police Officer (CCPO) Umar Sheikh and Inspector General (IG) Shoaib Dastgir, the government has replaced Punjab IG with immediate effect.

The IG Punjab had taken a stand against the appointment of CCPO Lahore without his consultation. He had expressed his objection to the appointment in a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday.

The Prime Minister had in turn directed IG Punjab to take up the issue with Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. During the meeting, the Punjab Chief Minister tried to reconcile the matter but reportedly, no positive outcome could come about as the Inspector General did not even return to work after his meeting with the CM.

IG Punjab had taken the position that the appointment of CCPO Lahore without his consultation is not acceptable.

According to sources, the names of Mohsin Butt, Kaleem Imam, AD Khawaja and Arif Nawaz are being considered for next IG of Punjab.
