IHC directs to ensure recovery of senior journalist

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday served notices to the respondents with directions to ensure recovery of senior journalist Matiullah Jan.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah conducted the hearing on a petition moved by Jan’s brother Shahid Abbasi, seeking recovery of the journalist.

The court also directed the respondents to appear in person if they failed to recover Matiullah Jan.

The petition was moved through Barrister Jahangir Jandoon Advocate. The representatives of Islamabad High Court Journalists Association were also in attendance during the proceeding.

Shahzad directs within 24 hours recovery of Matiullah

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability, Barrister Shahzad Akbar has also directed Inspector General Police Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan to recover the abducted senior journalist Matiullah Jan within the next 24 hours.

Taking notice of the reported abduction of senior anchor person from Islamabad, he directed the ICT Police to register FIR of the kidnapping of the journalist.

“The abduction of Matiullah Jan is unacceptable. I’ve instructed IGP Islamabad for immediate action for retrieval and registration of First Information Report (FIR),” said the SAPM on Accountability in his tweet message.
