IMF Deal: Tarin instigates Punjab FM to withdraw?

ISLAMABAD: Today (Wednesday 29th of August, 2022) when Executive Board of IMF is pondering over the Pakistan’s request of releasing the over a billion dollar tranche, information has been leaked by means of recording of a telephonic conversation between PTI’s former Fin Min Shaukat Tarin and Punjab’s Fin Min Mohsin Leghari, manifesting that the former had attempted to instigate the later to withdraw from the global lender IMF deal.

It may be recalled that a couple of days ago KP govt too stated that it was not in a position to fulfill the signed deal with IMF due to the devastation caused by flash floods.  It is pertinent to mention here that PTI controls KP and Punjab. Both the Provinces and the Federal Government are at daggers drawn since the change of government in Islamabad, the latest skirmish is on the issue of IMF.

IMF had confirmed on 2nd of August, 2022 that Pakistan had completed the last precondition for the seventh and eighth reviews. IMF had informed that in that connection a board meeting would be held on Monday 29th of August, 2022.  Resident Representative of IMF for Pakistan Esther Perez Ruiz too had confirmed by means of a Media statement that Pakistan had completed the last precondition by augmenting oil levy.
