IMF program to ensure sustainable, inclusive growth in Pakistan: IMF

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund on Friday said that the programme with Pakistan was aimed at improving its public finances, reducing public debt and helping Pakistan get back on the path to a sustainable and more inclusive growth.

“We hope that the programme can also create fiscal space for a substantial increase

in social spending, to strengthen social protection, as well as infrastructure and other human capital development,” Director Communication Department of the IMF, Jerry Rice said in an online press briefing.

Updating the Pakistan’s recent programme with IMF, Rice said there had been major developments recently as Pakistan and the IMF had the agreement of a $6-billion three-year extended Fund facility to support Pakistan’s economic reform efforts.

“So that happened on May the 12th. Just prior to that, Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, had met with Prime Minister Khan”, he added.

Pakistan wants to build new synergies and cooperation with Russia: FM

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Prime Minister Imran Khan and he had very high powered meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on sidelines of SCO summit in Bishkek.

In a tweet, he said both sides had a frank exchange on issues of regional interest and concern.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said we are interested in building synergies with Russia and chart new frontiers of cooperation and engagement.

Meanwhile, Foreign Office in a press statement said the Prime Minister’s engagement with world leaders including President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin lent further momentum to Pakistan’s all-weather strategic cooperative partnership with China and to the growth of Pakistan’s multi-dimensional ties with the Russian Federation.

It said Prime Minister Imran Khan’s comprehensive statement at 19th Meeting of the Council of the Heads of State of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States underscored Pakistan’s commitment to contribute substantially to the advancement of SCO’s goals and objectives in the political, security and economic spheres.

PPP joins hands with PML-N as Bilawal meets Maryam in Lahore

LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari today met with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz in Jati Umra Lahore.

Bilawal is visiting Raiwind on the invitation of Maryam to discuss current political situation following the 2019 budget and recent arrests of former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur and Punjab Assembly opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz.

The PPP Chairman was accompanied by Qamar Zaman Kaira, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Hassan Murtaza and other party leaders during the meeting with Maryam.

PML-N leaders Rana Sanaullah, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Maryam Aurangzeb and others were also in attendance.

CJP Asif Saeed Khosa approves 57 new model courts

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa has today approved establishment of 57 new model courts in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

40 model courts will be established in Punjab while 16 in Sindh and one will be established in Balochistan. New model courts will start working from June 24.

According to sources, a federal judicial workshop will be held on 19th June to train new model court judges.

CJP Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will address the participants of the federal judiciary.
