IMF wants removal of subsidies

DOHA: While Finance Minister Miftah Ismail conveyed to the IMF that nation could not endure the lifting of subsidies (on fuel and energy) introduced by ousted PTI Govt, IMF accentuated on removing the same to get back on track. 

IMF, maintaining that the mission held highly constructive discussion with Pakistani authorities,  emphasized the urgency of concrete policy actions, including in the context of removing fuel and energy subsidies and the FY2023 budget, to achieve program objectives.

According to sources IMF staff made considerable progress here during the 18th to 25th May rendezvous with the Miftah delegation. The parleys were to reach agreement on policies and reforms.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Chief of IMF Mission Nathan Porter pointed out that Pakistan had deviated from policies agreed in the last review under its Extended Fund Facility program.
