LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered relevant authorities to immediately impose a smog emergency in the provincial capital.
Justice Shahid Karim passed the orders while hearing identical petitions filed by Haroon Farooq and others seeking directions to check the rising smog.
Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randaha and other officials appeared before the court during the proceedings.
The commissioner informed the court that TEPA had been assigned the task of spray in Lahore.
However, the court expressed serious annoyance over the commissioner due to the current smog situation of the city and held the administration responsible for it.
“Earlier, the smog used to come in late November or December but now it has started in October,” it added.
The court observed, “Smog is not my problem but it is a problem of our children,” and ordered authorities to immediately impose a smog emergency.
The court further asked authorities to take action against smoke-emitting factories and seal them.
The court also ordered that officials, including the commissioner, should visit schools and colleges in cities from tomorrow to raise awareness among the children about smog.
