India allows Pakistan High Commissioner to watch Pak-india match

KOLKATA: India has allowed Pakistani High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit to enjoy the Pak-India World T20 stand-off scheduled for March 19.

Indian news agency ANI quoted Basit saying, “I’m glad to be here but somewhat sad that my colleagues who wanted to come could not come.”

Earlier, Basit and five other Pakistani diplomats were barred from travelling to Kolkata for the cricket match. However, Basit has been granted a visa to travel to Kolkata.

A spokesman for the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi Manzoor Ali Memon said only one diplomat had been allowed to watch the Pakistan-Bangladesh match on Wednesday whereas 17 applications were submitted by diplomats and officials

Pakistan lodged a strong protest with the Deputy High Commissioner of India J.P. Singh over refusal of visa to the Pakistani High Commissioner.
