HYDERABAD/ INDIA: An expelled Dalit student of University of Hyderabad (UoH) committed suicide on Sunday when his demand for reinstatement went futile.

The 25-year-old Rohith Vemula was doing his PhD in science technology and society studies from UoH and was in final year.

He alongwith his four other Dalit friends were suspended from the university last year in August over their involvement in a row between two student groups.

All the four students were on hunger strike and were sleeping in the open from the last two weeks.

A probe has been initiated into the incident whereas the university students are holding protests against Rohith Vemula’s suicide.

The students have accused the administration for forcing the scholar to commit suicide.
