NEW DELHI: Sources privy to NewsPakistan.TV have revealed that Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian are all set to ink the 8 billion Euro (US$ 8.9 bn) Rafale deal here this week.
In order to modernize the country’s air force, India has long been seeking to induct modern jets. At last Cabinet Committee on Security (Comprising PM, Defense, Foreign and Finance ministers) has given thumbs up facilitating finalization of the deal.
Besides routine clauses (delivery dates, the equipment, systems and weapons to be carried by the jet), the MoU will also cover an offset clause which will mandate Dassault to invest a certain portion of the deal value for local manufacturing in India.
In 2007 India wanted to buy 126 Rafale jets but due to delay in finalization of the deal with manufacturers India has decided to directly buy 36 aircraft from the Government.
