TEHRAN: A large number of people converged on Sunday (3rd Nov , 2024) at the former American diplomatic post here to mark the anniversary of the 1979 US Hostage Crisis.
It may be recalled, when Western-backed King was ousted by the supporters of Khomeini in the month of November, 1979, fifty-two members of the US Embassy staff were taken hostage (for 444 days).
Following that, USA called its Envoy back and officially severed off relations with Iran in 1980. Demonstrators were demanding return of the ailing King who later expired of Cancer. From that moment on the Iran-USA relations remained severed.
