ISLAMABAD: US team, led by Vice President JD Vance, and Irani delegation headed by Speaker of Tehran’s Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf engaged in direct peace talks here on Sat (11th April, 2026).

Following the proclamation of 15-day truce (on Wed), delegates from Iran and USA have converged for a one-day event here on Saturday (11th April, 2026) to hold direct ceasefire negotiations, the highest-level talks since Islamic Revolution of 1979.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier Speaker M.B Ghalibaf had posted on X that: “1) Lebanon and the entire Resistance Axis, as Iran’s allies, form an inseparable part of the ceasefire. (Point 1, 10-point proposal); 2) PM Shehbaz Sharif publicly and clearly stressed the Lebanon issue; there is no room for denial and backtracking; 3) Ceasefire violations carry explicit costs and STRONG responses. Extinguish the fire immediately.”

Incidentally, despite announcement of the conditional and fragile Iran-US truce for 15 days, Israel opted to strike different regions of Lebanon 100 times in ten minutes on 8th April, killing 303 people on the very 1st day of the ceasefire, that proved to be one of the deadliest for Lebanon.

Preconditions for Negotiations:

“Two of the measures mutually agreed upon between the parties have yet to be implemented: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran’s blocked assets prior to the commencement of negotiations. These two matters must be fulfilled before negotiations begin,” MB Ghalibaf posted.
