Israel kills 112 Journalists and Media Workers Killed

GAZA (NPTV/IFJ): Since 7th day of October, 2023, Israeli airstrikes, bombardments, snipers, and soldiers have killed over 112 journalists and media workers.

In addition to those murdered, many have been assaulted, arbitrarily detained, injured, or disabled.

On 21st day of May, the Israeli government seized equipment belonging to the Associated Press, citing a new bill used weeks before to shut down the domestic office of Qatari broadcaster Al-Jazeera.

In the West Bank, freelancer Saif Al-Qawasmi and at least 17 other journalists were injured on 5th day of June, after participants in a right-wing ultra-nationalist rally attacked onlookers, while journalist Amr Manasra was hit by live bullet shrapnel fired by the Israeli army on 21st day of May.

From 28 to 30th of May, IFJ Deputy General Secretary Tim Dawson joined a contingent including eight Global Union Federations and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) to Ramallah, conveying a message of support and solidarity to workers and their unions in Palestine.

The IFJ and the PJS published a safety advisory in English and Arabic for journalists and have opened Media Solidarity Centers across Gaza, while the IFJ’s Safety Fund has paid for medical kits, equipment battery packs, and direct financial assistance.
