BEIRUT: Israeli military has neutralised Haytham Ali al-Tabatabai, top commander of Hezbollah, here on Sunday (23rd Nov 2025).
According to details Israeli jets targeted the Haret Hreik area here to eliminate Haytham Ali al-Tabatabai. The bombing also claimed lives of four other people. The Israeli military proclaimed on 23rd Nov, that it had “eliminated the terrorist Haytham Ali Tabatabai, Hezbollah’s chief of general staff.” Confirming the death of its commander, Hezbollah warned that the aerial operation carried out by Israel would ‘open door to escalation of assaults’.

The name of Haytham Ali al-Tabatabai does not appear in the above list of Hezbollah leaders. In order to avoid the Israeli attacks ke kept a low profile and citoyens of Lebanon were not aware of his importance in Hezbollah till his assassination.

Following fourteen months of Israeli attacks on Lebanon that killed 3,823 men, women and children, Jerusalem and Hezbollah have signed a US-brokered truce that went into force at 02 GMT on 27th Nov, 2024. Commenting on the development, the outgoing US president mused, it reminded that peace was possible. Biden said US would “make another push with Turkiye, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.”
According to the terms of the ceasefire Israel was to withdraw its troops in the next months. UN blue caps were to be deployed alongwith Lebanese armed forces. Meanwhile, internally displaced Lebanese have commenced going back home. Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that Israel appreciated the US contribution to the process; UK’s M Keir Starmer expressed hope for relief for the people of the two countries; Emmanuel Macron termed the truce as a step toward peace.
As the Israeli troops attempted to invade on 2nd November, 2024, Hezbollah fighters engaged them inside Lebanon, destroyed three Merkava tanks with rockets as they advanced towards the village of Maroun al-Ras, and neutralized 8 soldiers.
The killed troopers were identified as:
1) Cpt. Eitan Itzhak Oster, 22, a team commander in the Egoz Commando Unit, from Modi’in.
2) Cpt. Harel Etinger, 23, a team commander in the Egoz Commando Unit, from Eli.
3) Cpt. Itai Ariel Giat, 23, of the Yahalom Combat Engineering Unit, from Shoham.
4) Sgt. First Class Noam Barzilay, 22, of the Egoz Commando Unit, from Kohav Yair.
5) Sgt. First Class Or Mantzur, 21, of the Egoz Commando Unit, from Beit Aryeh.
6) Sgt. First Class Nazar Itkin, 21, of the Egoz Commando Unit, from Kiryat Ata.
7) Staff Sgt. Almken Terefe, 21, of the Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, from Jerusalem.
8) Staff Sgt. Ido Broyer, 21, , of the Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, from Nes Tziona.
Another five soldiers were seriously wounded in the same incident.
