Italian National Day and the 75th Proclamation of the Republic of Italy

KARACHI: Festa della Repubblica  is the Italian National Day and Republic Day, which is celebrated on 2nd of June each year.

On the auspicious occasion of Italian National Day and the 75th Proclamation of the Republic of Italy, which represents a huge milestone for Italian democracy, the Consul General of Italy posted here stated: “This day many years ago laid the foundations of the modern-day nation state of Italy founded on the principles of Rule of Law, sovereignty, solidarity, equality of all its citizens without distinction of sexes or races and respect of human rights, international law and international cooperation. In that regard, Italy and Pakistan have enjoyed excellent longstanding bilateral relations and can boast of similar common values – a strong family system, the importance of hospitality and generosity, love for private entrepreneurship – that bring the two peoples and the two countries closer to one another We both also share geographical similarities that make our nations ideals as tourism destinations, i.e. we have both high snow-capped mountains, mesmerizing plains and striking sea beaches. Italy also is very proud of its ancient history and cultural heritage, which is another common aspect that we share with Pakistan – a country with a very rich ancient history and diverse cultures and civilizations some as old as 9.000 years ago! “Over the years, the bilateral relations between the two countries have deepened on political, economic, cultural and social fronts, which is evident with the increasing influx of individuals and professionals travelling between Italy and Pakistan for business, education, work and tourism. Furthermore, Italy is home to more than 200.000 Pakistanis. This represents the largest community of Pakistanis in the European Union, the second-largest in Europe, and one of the biggest foreign communities in Italy. This community has enormously enriched our country and given us new opportunities of bilateral cooperation especially in the trade sector, but we should not forget the smaller however vibrant community of Italians and Italo-Pakistanis living in Pakistan. In my short stay here so far, I have been impressed by the willpower, the creativity and the hard-working spirit of the Pakistani nation! These qualities have all shone and helped us to promote all kinds of initiatives in order to deepen relationships between the two Countries. “In fact, as Consulate of Italy in Karachi, it is our priority to create bring closer our Nations by facilitating bilateral exchanges in diverse sectors and encourage this kind of people-to-people interactions with shared common values and deep roots.”
