Jamal Khashoggi murder: US to impose sanctions on KSA

WASHINGTON: The Biden administration is set to impose sanctions and visa bans on Saudi Arabian citizens over the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

While fulfilling campaign promises to realign Saudi ties Biden will not impose sanctions on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Former president Donald Trump was accused of giving KSA, an ally and major oil producer, a pass on gross violations of human rights.

It has been insinuated by means of Friday (26th Feb) declassified intelligence assessment that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had approved of an operation to capture or kill dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered and dismembered in 2018 by a team of operatives linked to the crown prince in the KSA’s diplomatic mission’s Istanbul building.

However, Saudi Arabia has rejected the US intelligence report in this regard.

It may be recalled that US resident Khashoggi’ pieces criticizing crown prince’s policies appeared in the opinion columns of Washington Post.
