Journalist Wali Khan Babar’s killer arrested

KARACHI: The city police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon has informed that Kamran alias Shani, the hit man who had assassinated Geo News reporter Wali Khan Babar (on 13th Jan., 2011  in the Port City’s Liaquatabad area when he was going back home from office) has been arrested. 

Speaking at a Presser here today he confirmed that the killer had been identified as Kamran alias Shani: “He shot Wali Babar… he is the main shooter that’s why he was given death penalty by the ATC.”

It may be recalled that in 2014 an ATC here  had handed over capital punishment in absentia to Faisal alias Mota and Kamran alias Shani. Four other accused (Faisal Mehmood alias Nafsiyati, Naveed alias Polka, Muhammad Ali Rizvi and Shahrukh alias Mani were sentenced to life imprisonment. were incarcerated for life.

It is pertinent to mention here that during 2011 and 2012 four witnesses for the case were gunned down. Special public prosecutor in the case Naimat Ali Randhawa was also killed in the month of Sept., 2013.

According to Police Chief, Kamran alias Shani, was nabbed by a special investigation unit today on intelligence based information provided by a federal agency: “He told us that they killed Wali Khan Babar because he worked for ANP as a student. So that’s why they targeted him. The second reason he told us was that Wali Khan Babar was  airing anti-MQM/Anti-Altaf stories.”

Kamran Shani  lived at (founder MQM) Altaf Hussain’s residence in Dastagir area (called 90) for five years before going to Gulshan-e-Maymar with his wife and two children when the security personnel’s raid at 90 was eminent.
