Judicial commission to probe Ziarat incident

QUETTA: In order to probe the Ziarat Incident, Balochistan High Court’s Justice Ejaz Ahmad Swati has been appointed as a judicial commission (under Balochistan tribunal of inquiry 196) by the CJ of BHC. 

The Commission will figure out its in a month whether the 9 people gunned down during the Ziarat Operation were missing persons or not.

It may be recalled that Lt. Col. Laiq Baiq Mirza, who was serving in DHA Quetta, was abducted by a group of a dozen terrorists between Wednesday and Thursday (12th-13th July, 2022) from the Warchoom area here when he was returning to Quetta along with a cousin Umer Javed after visiting Quaid-e-Azam’s residency.

On receiving the news Army Quick Reaction Forces traced the hideouts of the terrorists in the general area of Mangi Dam. Later, with the support of helicopters and SSG an operation was commenced.

On Thursday 8 terrorists were spotted moving towards the mountains. Sensing the movement from the Army the terrorists martyred Lt. Col Laiq Baig Mirza Shaheed and tried to bolt.

As a result of shootout two terrorists were killed. A cache of IEDs, explosives and ammunition was recovered from their hideout.

Nevertheless, the other abductee Umer Javed was removed from the site by the terrorists. An operation was carried out to recover him.

According to ISPR: “On the night of 14/15 July, a terrorist hideout was identified and cleared by security forces near Khost in the Khalifat Mountains.

“Once encircled, the terrorists opened fire on the closing-in troops…As a result, Havaldar Khan Mohammad was martyred.

“Five terrorists belonging to the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) were also killed in the ensuing heavy exchange of fire…

“Sanitation operation, however, will continue in the area to apprehend the remaining perpetrators and recover Omer Javed.”

PM Shehbaz Sharif took to the Twitter to state: “Deeply grieved over martyrdom of Lt Col Laiq Baig Mirza in Balochistan.

“Our law enforcement agencies will hunt down all those who perpetrated this heinous crime & bring them to justice.

“My thoughts & prayers are with bereaved family. Nation grieves with them & shares their sorrow.”

President Dr. Arif Alvi in his message of condolence maintained that the nefarious tactics of the terrorists could not weaken Pakistanis’ resolve.
