Afghan NDS detains two Pakistani diplomats

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Office on Thursday summoned the Afghan Deputy Head of Mission to lodge a strong protest after two of its diplomats posted in Kabul were reportedly detained by Afghan security agencies.

The diplomats were abducted by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) when they were purchasing stationery from a market in Kabul, and kept in detention for three hours, local media reported.

The Afghan envoy was conveyed that the incident was a clear violation of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations (1961) and against the spirit of the brotherly relations between the two countries.

“We urge the Afghan government to take immediate steps to ensure the security and safety of our diplomatic personnel and premises and to ensure that such incidents do not take place in future,” the FO statement said.
