Kamal Siddiqi gets ‘Journalists of Courage Impact Award’

MANILA (NPTV/EWC): Pakistani journalist, Kamal Siddiqi, has been bestowed upon the Journalists of Courage Impact Award here on Monday (24th June, 2024) for displaying exceptional commitment to quality reporting and freedom of the Press, often under harrowing circumstances.

Earlier, taking to LinkedIn Kamal stated: “Happy to inform that the East West Center is naming me as one of its ‘Journalists of Courage and Impact’ this year. Four other journalists – from the US, Myanmar, Philippines and Hong Kong will also be honored. Humbled.”

Kamal Siddiqi was the Director News of Aaj TV, one of Pakistan’s leading news channels, until March 2024.

Currently he is working as a Senior Program Officer at the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) focusing on South Asia.

Previously he was the Director of the Center for Excellence in Journalism at the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.

He has over twenty-six years of experience in journalism and media training.

From 2009 to 2016, he was the launch Editor of The Express Tribune, an English language daily in Pakistan affiliated with The New York Times.

In this position, he oversaw three print and one digital edition.

He is a Jefferson Fellow (2006) and also participated in the Pakistan-US Journalism Exchange program in 2011.

For over five years he was also the President of the East-West Center Alumni Association Karachi chapter.

He is a fellow of the Center for Democratic Development and Rule of Law (CDDRL) at Stanford University and a senior non-resident fellow with the Atlantic Council.

He holds an MSc Economics with specialization in Media and Communication Studies from the London School of Economics.

His current area of research is in the media industry of Pakistan with reference to the role of digital media.

M. M. Alam is a Pakistan-based working journalist since 1981. Karachi University faculty gold medalist Alam began his career four decades ago by writing for Dawn, Pakistan’s highest circulating English daily. He has worked for region’s leading publications, global aviation periodicals including Rotors (of USA) and vetted New York Times as permanent employee of daily Express Tribune. Alam regularly covers international aviation and defense-related events including Salon Du Bourget (France), Farnborough (United Kingdom), Dubai (UAE). Alam has reported thousands of events and interviewed hundreds of people in Pakistan, UAE, EU, UK and USA. Being Francophone Alam also coordinates with a number of French publications.
