LAHORE: An accountability court today declared Paragon Housing Scheme director Nadeem Zia, Kamran Kayani, and Khalid Hussain as proclaimed offenders in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme case.
Accountability Court Judge Syed Najamul Hassan Bukhari conducted the proceedings wherein a report was filed by the National Accountability Bureau. A NAB special prosecutor told the court that the bureau completed proceedings to declare Kamran Kayani, Nadeem Zia, and Khalid Hussain as proclaimed offenders in the scam. He pleaded with the court to declare them proclaimed offenders. The court accepting the request declared the said accused as proclaimed offenders.
On 10th January, the court ordered the bureau to start proceedings to declare the accused as proclaimed offenders after it was submitted that the warrants for the arrest of accused had not been served upon them since their residences were found locked. The court directed for publication of notices in newspapers, directing the accused to appear in the court till 11th February. NAB had filed a supplementary reference against PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Nadeem Zia, Kamran Kayani, Khalid Hussain, and others in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing case.
7 militants dead in clash in N. Afghanistan
MAIMANA: Seven militants were killed and four others injured as clash erupted in Garziwan district of Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province on Saturday, an army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.
According to the official, the clash erupted early morning after the militants attacked some security checkpoints, and security forces retaliated forcing the militants to flee after leaving seven bodies behind, and four others injured. There were no casualties on security personnel, the official said.
Student commits suicide
FAISALABAD: An 8th class student committed suicide over poverty, in the area of Jaranwala police station.
Police said on Saturday that Kashif son of Arshad, a resident of Chak 7 Jaranwala returned home from school and demanded a meal.
His parents could not arrange a meal for him due to poverty. After being upset, Kashif committed suicide by jumping before a running train. The police handed over the body to his parents after completing necessary formalities.
Israeli forces shoot, injure 8 Palestinians
GAZA: Israeli forces on Friday opened fire on Palestinians taking part in the weekly anti-settlement protests in the blockaded Gaza strip, injuring 8 demonstrators, including a child, according to health ministry.
“Israeli soldiers raided the demonstrators with tear gas, live bullets and rubber-coated steel rounds as they were participating in the Great March of Return protests”, it said.
Israel has stepped up attacks in Gaza, which claimed over 295 Palestinian lives in 2018, marking the highest death toll since the 2014 Gaza conflict, many of them were shot during the March of Return protests, amid a deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave.
