KARACHI: Driver Natasha Danish who had killed 60-year-old Imran Arif, his daughter Amna Arif (22) and injured three motorcyclists on 19th August 2024 while speeding a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) Toyota Land Cruiser on the Karsaz Road here under the influence of drug, has been granted bail by SHC against a surety bond of Rs. 1 million on Monday (30th September, 2024).
Earlier, on 13th Sept a sessions court here had rejected her post arrest bail application in a drug case. It may be recalled when a judicial magistrate refused to grant her bail on 9th September Natasha’s advocate challenged the dismissal in sessions court claiming that the judicial magistrate had overlooked the evidence.
When her urine was tested, it transpired that she had used Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) before driving the vehicle. Hence, another FIR was registered against her under Section 11 (drinking liable to tazir) of the Prohibition Enforcement of Hadd Order (PEHO) of 1979. At SHC, her advocate Farooq H. Naek argued that methamphetamine was not found in the blood but only in the urine.
It is pertinent to mention here that according to the diyat (or blood money) law the heirs of Imran Arif and Amna Arif took five and a half crore rupees to pardon Natasha Danish. (While diyat in Islamic law is the financial compensation paid to heirs, Tazir refers to offence mentioned in the Quran or Hadith, sans specifying a punishment.)
Following the Karsaz tragedy Natasha Danish (a resident of KDA Scheme No.I) was sent to jail for 14 days by District East Magistrate on judicial remand on 21st August. After the grant of bail by SHC she was released.
