Labor class deserves better living standard: Senate Chairman

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani has said labor class deserve better living standard and in this regard progress were being ensured.

In his special message on Labour Day here on Wednesday he called for a mechanism to consistently and regularly increase the minimum wages of skilled and unskilled labourers to add to the lives in view of the soaring inflation rates, said a press release.

He observed that Labour Day is an international holiday honoring the struggles of the working class and efforts of labour unions.

There are a number of issues that have to be addressed and resolved to provide for a decent life worth living for the labourers.

Chairman Senate said, providing one day holiday was not an apt tribute to our labourers but was an attempt to reaffirm our commitment and resolve that if they want progress in our country, they need to take steps which would increase productivity.

It would only happen when they attempt to increase the satisfaction level of the workers. This could be achieved by providing substantial pay structure, workplace safety and promise of a good life, he added.

Sanjrani said Pakistan was a signatory to International Labour Organisations’ conventions and hence required fulfilment of its obligations. They could and must do something to reduce the plight of labourers, he added.
