NEW DEHLI: Lalu Prasad Yadav has been incarcerated for 42 months for defrauding the Behar state government of Indian Rs. 8.45m.
Following the Ranchi court decision, Yadav’s son said that the conviction will be challenged in an appeals court: “The judiciary has performed its duty. We will go to the HC after studying the sentence and apply for a bail”.
Today’s was 69-year-old Yadav’s second conviction. He is presently serving a 60-month term in Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Jail for fraudulently withdrawing Indian Rs. 378 from Govt. treasury and received the sentence via video-conference.
In India politicians found guilty of offences carrying a jail term of 2 years or more are barred from taking part in elections.
