Legendary philanthropist laid to rest at Edhi Village




ISLAMABAD: Legendary social worker and humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi laid to rest at Edhi Village here on Saturday.

Founder of Edhi Foundation breathed his last at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) at around 11.20 PM Friday, July 8, 2016. He was suffering from kidney failure.

Edhi Sahab wrote in his will to bury him in a grave that was dug around 25 years ago in Edhi Village at main superhighway.

Edhi’s funeral prayer offered with state honor

Funeral prayers of Abdul Sattar Edhi were offered with state honor at National Stadium, Karachi after Zuhr prayers. Maulana Ahmed Khan Niazi led the prayer.

Many political leaders, famous personalities, Chiefs of Pakistan’s forces [Army, Navy, Air Force] and other attended Edhi’s funeral prayers.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member of the National Assembly Asad Umar and philanthropist Ramzan Chhipa also offered the funeral prayers.

On the other side, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Naval Chief Admiral Zakaullah, Corps Commander Karachi Lt-Gen Naveed Mukhtar and DG Rangers Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar also attended the funeral.

On the occasion, an 19-gun salute was presented to the legendary social worker. Edhi Sahab’s coffin was wrapped in the national flag.

Edhi, who set up one of Pakistan’s biggest welfare organizations and was revered as a “living saint” by many, was suffering from severe kidney problems for the past several years.

Following his sad demise, people from across the world are mourning his death and expressing their grief on social media.

Many politicians and celebrities took to Twitter to express their grief over Pakistan’s prominent philanthropist’s death.
