Light drizzle likely in Karachi on Wednesday

KARACHI: After facing scorching heat for few days, Karachiites are likely to get light rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), entry of fresh westerly wave in Pakistan from Iran between May 12 and 16 will turn the weather pleasant and result in rainfall in some parts of the country.

“Heatwave is going to be replaced by rainfall in the city on Wednesday,” said MET dept.

The MET Office also forecast rainfall in Balochistan, Sukkur, Larkana and Nawabshah.

Earlier: Heatwave alert: Sindh imposes emergency in hospitals

Following the warning of possible heatwave by the MET department, the Sindh government had announced to impose an emergency in all hospitals in the province.

The MET office had yesterday predicted that the temperature in Karachi may soar as high as 42°C due to a possible heatwave from tomorrow (May 5).

According to MET, the heatwave could last for 3 days (till May 8).

On the other hand, the weather forecast office had also said that a dust-thunderstorm coupled with rain was also expected to hit several cities of Sindh including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad and Shaheed Benazirabad this week.

Earlier: Met dept. predicts heatwave in Karachi next week

The metropolitan is likely to be attacked by the heat wave in the second week of May, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier predicted.

“Karachiites may experience a heatwave from May 5-8 due to a likely change in the direction of winds,” said Director MET Sardar Sarfaraz in an interview. “Temperature in the city is expected to range from 40 to 42 degrees Celsius.”

He further added that dry winds from the south and south-west will push the mercury up on the scale turning the metropolis weather hot.
