Lightening claims 23 lives in Tharparkar

MITHI: Lightening killed at least 23 men, women and children as widespread rains lashed villages in Tharparkar district of Sindh.

According to details lightning struck a number of villages including Mithi, Chhachhi near Islamkot town, Ram Singh Sodho village near Diplo town. A large number of livestock -reportedly hundreds – also perished due to lightening and fires that followed. 

As the result of lightening over 30 persons suffered injuries and were brought to hospitals in Mithi, Islamkot and Chhachhro towns. Many cattle heads were killed in Sakri, Ismail Otho and other villages .By Thursday evening around 27mm rainfall was recorded in the town of Nagarparkar.

In Mirpurkhas life came to a standstill due to the resulting inundation of roads and streets due to heavy rains. In Sukkur heavy rain and lightning disrupted the life in Thull, Kandhkot, Kashmore, Ghouspur, Ghotki and surrounding areas. 

Few of the victims who have been identified. Sukhan Soomro, 20, and Mushtaq Soomro were killed in Chhachhi village near Islamkot,  28-year-old Jodh Singh died in Ram Singh Sodho village near Diplo town; Sona Dohat, 35, was killed in Udani village near Chhachhro town, Jamal Shoro and Samad Soomro died in villages of Nagarparkar and Diplo talukas.

Three of a family – Muqeema, Sakina, and Abdul Razzak Samejo – were killed in Morasiyo village near Chhachhro and 10-year-old Neto Bheel was killed in Akliyyoon village near Kantio; Kamla Meghwar, 16, died in Borli Mousepota village near Islamkot and Samani Samejo, 35, died in Meghi Jo Taar village near Chhachhro; Jamoon Kolhi, 30, was killed in Dhabi village near Mithi.

Forty-year-old Karamat Nohrio was killed in Ketari village near Islamkot; Tayab Arisar, 25, was struck by lightning in Mithryo village near Islamkot and died while Amboon Kolhi, 20, was killed in Kolhi locality in Mithi town; a man and three women were killed in Achhro Thar in Sanghar district during heavy rainfall.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of human lives due to lightening and heavy rains in Tharparkar and other areas. Condoling with the bereaved families and praying for the departed souls he had directed the local and provincial leadership of PTI to carry out relief work,
