LISBON: A carriage on historic Glória funicular derailed here Wednesday (3rd Sept, 2025) killing 17 (including 5 Portuguese) and injuring 21 (some critically).
According to details the carriage hit a building near Avenida da Liberdade and collapsed.
Last year, 8.5 million tourists visited Lisbon and one of the major attractions for them was Glória’s brief ride.
It may be recalled that due to lack of maintenance a similar accident occurred back in May 2018, sans any casualty.
