Local Govt. vital for democratic political systems: US CG Grace Shelton

KARACHI: Consul General of USA Grace Shelton has stated that local government played a vital role in strengthening democratic political systems.

She was addressing the participants of a Local Government Capacity Building Workshop organized by the US diplomatic post here today.

Grace Shelton noting that locally elected officials are best placed to voice their constituents’ concerns said: “You all understand the local population better than anyone and are closer to the issues”.

The event was arranged for recently-elected local government officials from Sindh province with a focus on the districts of Larkana, Sukkur, Thatta, Malir and Badin.

M.J. Khan, a former three-time Houston City Council Member, conducted the virtual workshop from the US and enlightened the participants about the local government system in the U.S. 

Khan briefed on how revenue generation, legislation, communication & coordination, human resource management & administration and community engagement ensure smooth running of local government.KARACHI: Salman Murad Baloch Chairman District Council Malir Karachi, Arsalan Shaikh Mayor Sukkur, Aslam Shaikh Mayor Larkana, Shehryar Wassan Chairman District Council Khairpur and dozens of elected members, government officials and journalists attended the workshop.M.J.
