Mayor, deputy mayor polls in Karachi to be held tomorrow: ECP

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Tuesday that the elections of mayor and deputy mayors will be held in Karachi tomorrow (Wednesday) as per schedule.

According to a notification issued by ECP, the commission has directed the provincial government to make foolproof security arrangements for smooth conduct of the polls.

In July, ECP had announced that the third phase of Local Government elections for mayor and deputy mayor in Karachi would be held next month.

ECP in a notification said that the election for the posts of mayor and deputy mayors will take place on August 24.

“Candidates should submit their nomination papers on August 6 and the oath taking ceremony would be held on August 30,” ECP said in the statement.

The Commission further said that District Councils Chairmen and Vice Chairmen will also be elected on August 24.

In Sindh, the LG polls were held in three phases from November to December last year. The process is yet to complete.
