Militants’ attack at Kalat check-post claims 7 lives

KALAT (Balochistan): An attack carried out by unknown militants at Shah Mardan check-post here on Saturday (16th Nov, 2024) night has claimed lives of seven security personnel deployed there.

According to details, before storming the check-post with automatic rifles, militants lobbed grenades and launched rockets terrorists at the Frontier Corps (FC) check-post. According to ISPR six terrorists were gunned and four injured down during the exchange of fire. Confirming the fatalities DC Kalat stated: “7 soldiers deployed at the check post lost their lives while 18 others received injuries in the pre-dawn attack.” The bodies and injured were taken to Combined Military Hospital in Quetta.

Taking to the Twitter (X) PM Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a mountain in the Johan area in Kalat: “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Immediate action will be taken against the perpetrators. Such cowardly acts cannot deter our resolve – together with our nation and security forces, we will eliminate this menace.” Meanwhile, Mobile/Internet Services have been suspended in parts of Balochistan by PTA in order to ensure public safety.

A PTA statement on 15th Nov, said: “The general public is hereby informed that, under the directives of authorised departments, mobile internet services have been temporarily suspended in certain areas of Balochistan…to ensure public safety given the security situation in these areas”. However, the areas affected and duration of outage is still not clear.

Earlier State Dept spokesman Mathew Miller said on 4th September that the US and Pakistan have a shared interest in combating threats to regional security:”United States strongly condemns last week’s deadly attacks that targeted security officials and civilians, including the murder of 23 innocent civilians in Musakhail. Pakistani people have suffered greatly at the hands of violent extremist terrorists and our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those killed.”
