Motorway Rape Case: Suspect Waqar-ul-Hasan Shah presents himself for arrest, claiming innocence

LAHORE: Model Town Rape suspect Waqar-ul-Hasan, claiming innocence, has presented himself for arrest at the Model Town CIA Center here today. The affected lady too has not recognized him as one of the perpetrators after watching the footage shown by police. 

During interrogation the 36-year-old suspect said that he had never been involved in any crime with the main accused Abid Ali and was not part of the Motorway robbery, torture and rape case. He claimed that he was not in the area at the time the crime was committed. Punjab Govt had alleged him and Abid Ali of raping, torturing and snatching her wallet harboring Rs. 100,000 in cash, one bracelet, car registration papers, and three ATM cards.

Deciphering the enigma of geo-fencing of his cellular phone, Waqar-ul-Hasan Shah told that his brother-in-law Abbas often used to utilize his mobile and he was not only in touch with the main accused Abid Ali but also was involved in a number of criminal activities with him. Suspect Waqar-ul-Hasan Shah has further claimed that his brother-in-law would soon surrender himself before Police.

It is pertinent to mention here that Waqar-ul-Hassan was among the two suspects identified by the Punjab government during a Presser held here yesterday (12th Sept, 2020) for their involvement in the Motorway Rape Case.

A resident of Qila Sattar Shah (Shaikhupura), Waqar-ul-Hasan Shah has a history of crime and at least two cases of robbery had been registered against him in the last few years. Police personnel including the CCPO Lahore Umar Shaikh are grilling him for further information. He was taken for DNA profiling on his own insistence.

Meanwhile, using the conventional policing techniques a number of family members/relatives of the two accused have been taken into custody. The father and brother of principal accused Abid Ali have been nabbed from Manga Mandi. Suspect Abid Ali’s daughter was taken into custody during raid at his home.
