Muneeza Shamsie’s Hybrid Tapestries provides map of Pakistani Eng. Lit.

SANA MAHMOOD

KARACHI: In the volume Hybrid Tapestries Muneeza Shamsie attempts to provide extensive historical map of English literature in Pakistan.

She tries to find the narrative to its multiple origins, including pre-colonial and colonial contacts.

Thirteen pioneering writers have been commissioned to write detailed chapters on writers like Prof Ahmed Ali and Shahid Suhrawardy whose oeuvres were published before partition.

Then they have been asked to later write on new writers.

Pioneering contemporary authors like Zulfikar Ghose, Taufiq Rafat, Bapsi Sidhwa, Sara Suleri, Hanif Kureishi and Samuel Fyzee Rahamin are given due acknowledgement.

The book includes and unites a wide range of Pakistani English language writers.
