Murad Ali Shah is the new chief minister of Sindh




KARACHI: Syed Murad Ali Shah has become the new chief minister of Sindh today (Friday).

Murad Shah, who replaced Syed Qaim Ali Shah, was nominated by PPP’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a meeting at Bilawal House Karachi.

The polling to choose the new CM Sindh was held at Sindh Assembly her on Friday where Murad Shah was declared the winner.

Murad Ali Shah got 88 votes while Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)’s Khurram Sher Zaman only got 3 votes, losing against Murad Shah.

However, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Muslim League (functional) did not participate in the polls.

Murad Shah to take oath today

Shah will take the oath of his office today. The oath-taking ceremony will be held at Governor House Karachi where senior leaders of the party would be present.

“The decision to replace an experienced and loyal party leader was very difficult but sometimes the party has to take such decisions for political and strategic purposes in the interest of PPP and the province,” PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said in a statement released by PPP media cell.

The PPP chairman said Qaim is a very respected member of the party and PPP would continue to seek his guidance from his experience in the future also as he had been associated with the party for three decades.

“Syed Qaim Ali Shah is a great asset of PPP who stood by the party through thick and thin for three generations of party leadership,” he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Syed Qaim Ali Shah presented his resignation to the Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan.

When Shah was asked about the decision of his removal as the chief minister, he said: “PPP leadership had always taken wise decisions. However, I would continue to serve the party.”

The announcement of changing the provincial CM had long been lingering with the PPP leadership as it was difficult to remove the senior leader from CM office.

The PPP leadership has also decided to make changes in the provincial cabinet. Names of new Sindh cabinet members would be announced in a couple of days.
