Musa Gilani expresses satisfaction over recounting process

MULTAN: PPP candidate for NA-157 Ali Musa Gilani Saturday expressed satisfaction over the process of recounting.
Talking to the media here at the Judicial Complex, he said that the recounting process would take time and it might be completed tomorrow.
It is pertinent to mention here that PPP candidates for NA-154 Syed Abdul Qadir and Syed Ali Musa Gilani for NA-157 had submitted applications for recounting in their constituencies as PTI candidates Ahmad Hussain Dehar and Zain Qureshi were declared successful.

i) Applications for recounting of votes, filed by Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani in NA-154 Multan-I and Syed Ali Musa Gilani in NA-157 Multan-IV with the returning officers (ROs) concerned have been approved. Sources in Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) said Friday that votes would be recounted on July 28. (Published on 28th July 2018)

ii) After rejection from District Returning Officer (DRO), former prime minister and PPPP candidate from NA-158 Multan-V, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani applied to ECP for recounting. In a statement issued here on Friday evening, Yusuf Raza Gilani said that constitutionally, if one looses with a margin of 10,000 votes, one can apply for recounting. He, however, stated that his application was rejected though his opponent PTI candidate Ibrahim Khan had won by around 9,000 votes from NA-158 Multan-V. He stated that he should be given the right of getting his votes recounted. Gilani bagged 74,443 votes while PTI Ibrahim Khan won by securing 84,304 votes and difference of votes was meager.

iii)  The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the interior ministry to remove the name of Syed Ali Musa Gilani from the Exit Control List (ECL) in a hearing today (Monday). Gilani, the youngest son of former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and the main accused in ephedrine case was prevented from leaving the country in the year 2012 along with other accused in the case. “The federal government failed to fulfill legal formalities in the case,” Gilani’s lawyer told the judge in the hearing and complained of political victimization following which, he added,  his client’s name was placed in the ECL. On the other hand, the government’s lawyer insisted that the case was still in the courts and so, Musa Gilani’s request to remove his name from the ECL must be rejected. Nevertheless, after hearing arguments from both the sides, the court gave a verdict in favor of Musa Gilani and told the interior ministry to take his name out of the list at the earliest.
